Investing in the Netherlands

The Netherlands, long Europe’s trading crossroads, is an obvious choice when it comes to finding the best place to locate a pan-European operation. The country’s pro-business environment creates a gateway to Europe that helps North American companies succeed throughout the continent. A wealth of world-class business partners are firmly engrained in its culture – corporations, universities and research institutes, labour force and government organizations who know how to deal with business challenges in today’s economy.

Geographically speaking, The Netherlands has a key position when introducing products into Europe, with major distribution points like the Rotterdam Port and Amsterdam Schiphol Airport. The business triangle formed by Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Utrecht offers an excellent network of logistics companies, supplying all the services necessary to be successful in international markets. Lastly, the Netherlands’ government favours free trade; it is possible to establish a company with only foreign capital in the Netherlands.

The Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency (NFIA) facilitates American companies’ direct investments in the Netherlands. Companies can obtain information, strategic perspective and practical help from the NFIA business professionals. The NFIA has offices in New York City, Boston, Chicago, San Mateo, and Atlanta and has helped hundreds of North American companies initiate or expand operations in the Netherlands. As a government agency, the NFIA provides information and practical assistance free of charge. Please visit the (NFIA)website.

The American Chamber of Commerce in the Netherlands is another point of contact for US businesses in the Netherlands. Amcham publishes a very useful company directory (of US companies in the Netherlands and Dutch companies in the US) and represents US business interests towards the Netherlands Government.

The US Embassy in the Hague is also a primary contact for US businesses seeking to do business in the Netherlands. Contact the U.S. Commercial Service, US Embassy, Lange Voorhout 102, 2514 EJ The Hague, the Netherlands. Phone: 31 70 310 9417, email The.hague.office.box@mail.doc.gov
