Bicycle manufacturers can look back on two successful years. In 2006, turnover increased by no less than 15 percent relative to 2005. In 2007, a 9 percent turnover growth was realised.

The high growth was almost entirely generated in the first six months of 2007. In the first quarter of 2008, turnover was more than 3 percent up on last year’s first quarter. The high turnover growth is predominantly due to higher sales. Prices have been fairly stable recently.

Sales statistics compiled by branch organisation RAI show that 1.4 million new bikes were sold last year, an increase by nearly 80 thousand relative to 2006.

The second quarter is the best period of the year for bicycle retailers. The third quarter is also a period when sales are relatively high.
