Paul Verhoeven’s Zwartboek set in World war II, has been voted the best Dutch feature-length film all-time. The online voting round, in which 50,000 people participated, was organised by the public TV channel Nederland 2, together with the Dutch Film Festival and the VPRO broadcasting organisation.
Eddy Terstall’s Simon, a film whose main theme is euthanasia with an Amsterdam backdrop, claimed second place, while Soldaat van Oranje – also by Paul Verhoeven – came in third. Another Verhoeven film, Turks Fruit, which in 1999 was voted best film of the century, ended in fifth place.
