Minister for European affairs Frans Timmermans is representing the Dutch government at the funeral of former Russian President Boris Jeltsin being held on Wednesday 25 April in Moscow.

By choosing Timmermans to represent the Netherlands, the government wants to underscore the importance of good relations between the Netherlands and the Russian Federation. Timmermans was working at the Dutch embassy in Moscow in the early 1990s, at the time of the historic events in which Jeltsin played such a decisive role.
