08 Aug 2024 | Foreign minister Maxime Verhagen is happy that the Dutch biologist Marc van Roosmalen, imprisoned in Brazil on charges of biopiracy, has been released pending his appeal.

Mr Verhagen had written to his Brazilian counterpart personally to request special attention for the case. As yet, the details of the court’s ruling are unknown, but it appears that proceedings against Van Roosmalen will carry on. The Minister will continue to follow the case closely in the future.
