Netherlands Forces to Iraq

In accordance with UN Resolution 1483, the Netherlands’ government has agreed to send a battalion of marines as part of the multinational stabilization forces in Iraq for a period of 6 months with the possibility of extending the mission for another 6 months.

In total, about 1,100 military personnel will deploy to the southern part of Iraq and be stationed in the province of Al-Muthanna, which is under the command of a British division.  The operational command is run by the British headquarters, via the American Headquarters in Bagdad known as the American Central Command (CENTCOM) which coordinates and oversees all military operational missions.
