Dutch ambassador appointed UN Middle East envoy
29 Nov 2023 | The United Nations Secretary-General has appointed the Dutch diplomat Robert Serry as special coordinator for the Middle East peace process.

The Dutch government is very pleased with this appointment. ‘I regard it as a token of international appreciation of the active and constructive role the Netherlands has played in the Middle East peace process,’ said minister of foreign affairs Maxime Verhagen.

Support for the peace process is one of the priorities of Dutch foreign policy. Serry could make a major contribution to the peaceful resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. His work will include taking part in the talks of the Quartet on the Middle East, whose members are the UN, the United States, the European Union and Russia.
