Adopting a foreign child in the Netherlands

We live in the Netherlands and want to adopt a child from another country. What do we have to do?

Since 1 July 2004, prospective parents who want to adopt a child from another country have to register with the Adoption Services Agency ( Stichting Adoptievoorzieningen). You can no longer register with the Ministry of Justice. For questions about the adoption procedure, registration as prospective parents and background information, please contact:

Stichting adoptievoorzieningen
Postbus 290
3500 Utrecht
telephone +31 30 232 1640 (weekdays 9.30-12.30)
fax +31 30 232 17 77

You can also find information – in Dutch only – on the Agency’s website (link top right)
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Dutch embassies and consulates in other countries do not play a mediating role in adoption procedures abroad.
